The Hawkeyes’ Saturday game against the Kent State Golden Flashes brought with it a career day for running back Tyler Goodson. Thanks to Goodson’s dominant performance from the backfield, the Hawkeyes recorded a 30-7 win and improved to 3-0. Though the offense was more quiet than usual in other areas, Goodson was unstoppable and had a game that will once again bring up Heisman candidate conversations.
Of the four touchdowns Iowa scored on Saturday, Goodson was responsible for three of them, rushing for 152 yards on 22 carries. This hat-trick day for Goodson came against a talented Kent State defense, one that had generated lots of talk prior to this match up. Nevertheless, thanks to a strong offensive line that made such a powerful running game possible, the Hawkeyes’ running backs were able to rush for 206 yards on the day.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz was happy with the win and excited to see Goodson making big plays. “[Kent State] made it tough. So, to Tyler’s credit, he did a good job running. Good to get him on track and hopefully we can keep building off that.” This week in practice, Iowa will hope to polish the parts of their game that haven’t been perfect yet this season in order to prepare for Colorado State. One can only imagine what this 3-0 Hawkeyes team will look like when all the parts are moving in unison.
The Hawkeyes will host the Rams Saturday the 25th at 3:30 PM ET.
